The World of Lorn

The World of Lorn (named for the largest city) is a wild and beautiful land. It is the eastern part of a huge continent and is home to millions of people. In the north are the Brannigs, celtic tribes who fled their homeland centuries ago to settle here. The southland contains dozens of cities, many of which are part of the Lornic Empire. Dwarrows live in the mountains controling the precious metal iron, the bane of the treacherous Flan Acar, once rulers of the world.

Lorn is based loosely on the time before the rise of the Romans, though it has been growing in ways I did not expect. Its people live in tribes or cities, fight with bronze weapons, and sail the sea in simple sailboats, but they use magic to raise great stone fortresses and control the weather. Even so, magic is poorly understood by those who work it, and the hard sciences are unknown. Most people live in poverty. Slavery is common, especially in the south; not only humans but the primitive Kolfies and Mulits are put in chains. As in our world greed and ambition rule the rulers and it is not always obvious who the true rulers are. Danger lurks in every forest, valley, and Acarian ruin. But there are always heros those who will aid the unfortunate, heal the wounded, and fight the evils which beset mankind.

Here I have gathered information about the world I use in my GURPS game. Feel free to send questions or comments to me (ksulliva@psc.edu). All of this information is placed in the public domain.

  • About the world: This gives information about the world, including races, languages, and a history of the world (as my players know it). Same document, one large file.
  • Map of the world (postscript and gif): A very basic map; the real one is on paper. I need good mapping software! Neither navigation nor magic has developed enough for truly accurate maps to be available to the players. I also have postscript and gif maps of the area around the city of Elwin, where much of the action of my campaign has taken place.
